Kiev launches 100+ drones into Russian border region

The Ukrainian military launched a massive overnight drone strike on Russia, with the vast majority of UAVs intercepted over Bryansk Region, according to the Defense Ministry.

Russian air defenses intercepted a total of 115 drones between 8:30pm Sunday and 4:35am Monday, including ten over Crimea and the Black Sea, two over Kursk Region, and one over Belgorod Region.

Some 102 drones were downed over Bryansk Region, where, according to Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz, the attack damaged civilian infrastructure and killed at least one person.

“The Kiev regime carried out another act of terrorism tonight. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian attack on the city of Bryansk killed a civilian and injured a woman. She was quickly taken to the hospital where she is receiving the necessary medical assistance,” Bogomaz wrote on Telegram.

Bryansk was also targeted in a massive drone raid last week, although to a much lesser extent and without casualties. Last Thursday, the Russian military downed a total of 87 Ukrainian UAVs – half of them over the Crimean Peninsula.

Last weekend, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a unilateral suspension of hostilities as part of a 30-hour Easter ceasefire, ordering his country’s troops to only engage Ukrainian forces in response to attacks.

Despite a marked decline in the intensity of Ukrainian operations, the Russian Defense Ministry logged approximately 4,900 violations during this period. Vladimir Zelensky, in turn, accused Moscow of thousands of violations.

Following a brief lull in fighting, the Russian military carried out multiple long-range strikes against Ukrainian military and industrial targets over the past week.

Ukrainian officials have claimed that 12 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the strikes, with Kiev bearing the brunt of the damage. Moscow has maintained that it targets only military installations and facilities used by Kiev’s forces, rejecting accusations of deliberately striking civilian sites.
